Welcome to beginning band! I hope the school year is treating you well so far. Soon you will be hearing some sounds in your home that are hard to describe, but I promise it does get better - and quickly! It is my privilege to share this experience with you and it is my desire to provide a quality program for your student and our district. It is my hope that students will gain ability on their instruments, learn about the language of music and be excited to perform.
What you need to know about beginning band - it is a process. It will take time for the students to learn their skills, so be patient. In order for this process to work there must be a partnership between the teacher, the child, and the parents. As the parent you must be involved in your child's musical life and help guide their home practice habits. This will show them that it is important to you as well!
Practice is necessary for success. It is important to help your child understand that with patience and repetition they will be able to train the fingers, learn the valve combinations, learn the sticking rudiments, learn how to read the notes, etc. It is important to practice EVERY DAY.
