Flora CUSD #35 Return to School Plan
ISBE and IDPH have released guidelines that must be followed as school districts prepare for the return to school this fall. As guidelines change, we will continually update our plan and communicate any changes. Based on the current guidelines, below is a summary of our return to school plans.
- Temperature and symptom screenings will be required for all staff, students, and visitors prior to entering the building.
- Temperature and symptom screenings will be required for all students prior to boarding a bus and students and staff must wear a mask at all times while on the bus.
- Individuals with a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit will be sent home.
- All staff will be encouraged to stay home if they are sick and parents will be encouraged to keep sick children home.
- Any individual that tests positive for COVID-19 or any individual that has had close contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19 should self-quarantine for 14 days. Close contact means the individual was within 6 feet of the individual that tested positive for more than 15 minutes.
- Except for eating and while in band, students and staff must wear face masks at all times inside buildings. Face coverings do not need to be worn outside if social distance is maintained. If a student is unable to wear a mask due to medical reasons, the parent/guardian should contact the school to discuss options and to determine if remote learning will be needed.
- Frequent and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces and objects within schools and on school buses will be conducted.
- In the classroom, distances between student desks/seating will be established to the maximum extent feasible and appropriate. Desks will face in the same direction.
- Classroom activities will be structured to maintain social distancing to the greatest extent possible and the sharing of supplies or manipulatives will be limited to the greatest extent possible.
- Hallways will be marked with directional arrows and 6-foot distance markers will be present in areas where students line up.
- All food preparation surfaces, tables, common surfaces, etc. will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between groups and after meals.
- No more than 50 students will be on a bus at any one time.
- Hand sanitizers will be readily available in the buildings and on school buses.
- School dismissal for K-12th grade students will be at 1:00 daily for students to limit the total time a student is wearing a mask each day and to ensure proper sanitation of buildings. Pre-K dismissal times will be communicated to those parents that have students in the program.
Remote Learning:
- A remote learning option will be available for any parent/guardian that chooses not to send their student to school.
- A parent/guardian can opt their student in to remote learning at any time during the semester but the student will remain in remote learning for the duration of the quarter at the elementary and junior high school and the duration of the semester at the high school.
- Any student enrolled in the district either in-person or remote will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities.
- For junior high and high school students, zoom classes will be conducted with students at the time the student would be in that class during a normal school day and the students will be required to join in the class.
- For K-5th grade students, remote learning will be delivered through the use of zoom, videos and/or packets.
- During remote instructional days, traditional grading policies will be utilized. The district will work with parents to ensure that students have all the necessary tools, technology, and teacher supports at home to complete all assignments, take assessments, and complete projects in a timely manner.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continually plan for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Please call 618-662-2412 if you have any questions.
